Paper Circuit Tutorials

Paper Circuits are a fun way to add a bit of pizzazz to projects while learning about electricity and engineering. Projects can be simple “light up” affairs, or more complex with resistors and crossings.

A variety of paper circuit kits can be purchased in our shop.

Tips, Tricks, and Inspiration

In this posts we have some tips and tricks for the more ambitious makers. We’ve also got a gallery of images for those who might be looking for some inspiration.

Basic LED Stick Puppets

Basic LED Stick Puppets

This tutorial walks you through the basics of creating a stick puppet with LEDs, card stock, copper tape, popsicle sticks, and batteries.

Winter Circuits

Snowflake Paper Circuit

This tutorial will create a beautiful lit snowflake and is approachable to younger children while being adaptable enough to remain interesting to older kids and adults.

Menorah Paper Circuit

This tutorial will create a menorah with 8 candles that can each light individually as well as a central shamash that is always lit. It is simple, but a bit fiddly so kiddos without well developed fine motor skills may need some assistance.

Menorah Paper Circuit – Easier Version

This tutorial will create a menorah with 8 candles that can each light individually as well as a central shamash that is always lit. It is less fiddly than our initial version and uses a piece of white card stock as a background to hold all of the circuitry.

Yule Tree Paper Circuit

This tutorial will create a tree with colored lights. The circuit diagram is on the more complex side with a resistor needed to support LEDs of different voltage.

Halloween Circuits

Paper Circuit Pumpkins

Make your own Paper Circuit Pumpkins with Los Alamos STEAM Lab on this Adventure in STEM sponsored by Family Strengths Network. We’ll learn about circuits and the flow of electricity as we experiment with our design.
