Algebra I with a Social Justice Slant
September 8, 2020 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

This class will be an applications based class with a spiral curriculum covering the first semester of Algebra 1 as determined by Common Core Standards. I plan to offer the second semester in the Spring.
It will not make assumptions about holes in prior knowledge and it will have a social justice slant where it makes sense, ranging from climate justice to gender gaps to check-cashers.
I’ll have about half of the curriculum written before the semester starts with room to adapt as the class moves forward. As written now, the class covers 12 units in 15 weeks. We will meet for 90 minutes (outside with masks and socially distances or online if needed) each week for students to cover the bulk of the lesson together (with some simple prep work done in advance). They will also be assigned a small amount of homework for the week and be able to ask me questions through google classroom.
