Use measurements and math to draft your own perfectly fitting bodice block. We’ll use the formulas in Patternmaking for Fashion Design to create the block. If time permits, students will sew the block in class and make adjustments.

In the second class we will take the well-fitting block and learn how to modify it to produce several patterns for custom fitted shirts such as a raglan shirt, t-shirt, and camisole.

In the first class kiddos will learn to sew Ikat Bag’s Fairy Tale Doll Pattern. In following classes they will learn to modify a series of clothing patterns to give the doll any variety of dress up.

Possibilities include a mermaid tail, fire fighter’s clothes, doctor’s scrubs, fairy wings, ball gowns, overalls, and more. I have a huge number of samples I have sewn for my own children.

Students will use math and measuring to make custom patterns for their circle skirts. After they’ve calculated the yardage they need for the skirts, they will walk down to Atomic City Quilts together to purchase fabric for their skirts.

In the next session students will cut out their skirts and sew them with an elastic waistband and hem them with bias tape. They can use extra fabric to sew scrunchies or decorations for their skirts.

Do you have a favorite character from a book, movie, or TV show? Do you want to dress up like that character? We will explore how to design and create a costume from beginning to end just in time for Halloween! Casual cosplay is all about using what you already have, making things you don’t, and finding the rest easily to embody a character you love!

First class we will discuss characters from books, movies, and TV shows and workshop what it might look like to have their wardrobe. Students should bring sketchbooks with them to every class in order to work on their designs. Each student must select one aspect of the costume to build in the class.

Second class we will begin our build – masks, armor, weapons how to build and where to start! Third class we will continue our projects, start painting anything that needs painting and fourth class will be the finishing touches. Just in time for Halloween!

Depending on the complexity of the costume we may not be able to create an entire costume but we will discuss how to easily find and create the looks desired and parents will be given an outline on how to help their kids in between classes if they are interested.

In the first class students will customize a template for their mask (or tiara, button, etc.) and test for fit. Once they are satisfied with their initial design they will cut their masks from high quality felt and sew decorations onto them.

During the second class, students will sew their LEDs into place on the inside of their mask and use conductive thread to attach them to the battery and sew a lining onto the back for a more comfortable fit.
