Sometimes kids need a bit of help in a specific subject area or just getting homework done after school.

Format
Small group tutoring will incorporate a certified teacher (Tyler Dalmas) as well as High School tutors. Each session will include 30-45 minutes of educational play, 30-45 minutes of direct instruction, and some homework help or free play with Lego and other building toys.
Students will be broken up into groups based on the skills they are developing. These groups will facilitate the students working with their peers to solve problems or play games rather than taking turns to receive help. Groups may have children from a couple of different grade levels, but we will be mindful of respecting a child’s self-image and not place an older student with much younger students. For instance, we very much hope that partnering older, emerging readers with other older kids who are also emerging will give them an environment in which they feel safe enough to try new things. Our teacher coordinator will be monitoring progress so that kids can move around to the groups that will best serve their needs.
Math
Lower Grades: We’ll be using Right Start math to develop numerical fluency. There will be manipulatives for visualizing addition and subtraction as well as fractions and equality. We’ll be using Beast Academy Puzzles for mathematical problem solving. These puzzles develop mathematical problem solving and really foster a love of mathematics for students who may normally lack confidence.
Upper Grades: Right Start math will continue to serve many of our upper grades students who are working on multi digit addition and subtraction. We’ll be assessing a few different curriculums for multiplication and division as we see where the areas of need are for specific students. We’ll again be using Beast Academy Puzzles for mathematical problem solving. These puzzles develop mathematical problem solving and really foster a love of mathematics for students who may normally lack confidence.
Reading
Lower grades: We will be using the Logic of English Game Book for our educational play. This has a series of board games and bingos for phonics and phonemic awareness. We’ll be using Heggerty Bridge the Gap Curriculum for teaching phonemic awareness. This is a highly respected reading intervention program that teaches explicit decoding and has been successful for dyslexic students.
Older grades: We’ll be working on fostering a joy of reading in this age. We’re growing a library of high interest decodable readers. Students will work on reading out loud with peers, talking about what they’ve read. Beyond that we’ll develop a more specific curriculum when we determine the needs of the individual students and collect them into appropriate teams to work together.

Covid
While covid is still active in our community we will be requiring quality masks for all student. We have HEPA filters in our vents as well as free standing units. We also have kn94 masks available. We’ll update this policy as conditions change.
